Difficult work done damn well

NGRS Tunnel Rehab Program

Introduction

This major project involved the rehabilitation of a number of sections of the sewer main between Salt Pan Creek and Sydney Airport.

The Project

During the project approximately 2km of large box section sewer tunnel has been rehabilitated. Ten deep access shafts have also been refurbished and two new 2.4m diameter access shafts have been constructed to allow access to the tunnel some 25m below ground. The project required working in close proximity to homes, businesses and environmentally sensitive areas establishing 20 separate construction sites over a two year period. This large scale project represented a challenge not just from an engineering and logistical point of view but also required very careful and considerate community liaison and environmental management techniques.

The total value of this project was approximately $25,000,000.
