Difficult work done damn well

Dewatering & Inspecting The Sydney Pressure Tunnel

Project Details

Metrocorp enabled the dewatering, inspection and maintenance of Sydney Water’s pressure tunnel at several locations along its 17km length between Sydney’s largest drinking water storage at Potts Hill and the pumping station at Waterloo (shown here in the 1980s). The pressure tunnel supplies 1.3m people with water and was built in the 1930s.

Objectives

The main objectives were to conduct internal inspection of the pressure tunnel and install monitoring instrumentation, so structural integrity could be assured during planned construction of the WestConnex and Sydney Metro Rail tunnels. There was no disruption to customer supply during the work (Image courtesy Sydney Water/Water NSW Archives)
